 Fueling Connections

Fueling Connections

Accelerating Our Regional Outreach and Awareness Workshops and Resources in 2007!

Self Evaluation:

PARO on Wheels will be presenting Workshops that will help you discover more about the most important person in your life......yourself!

January 9th we’ll be in Fort Frances at the Rainy River Futures Development Corporation from 6:30pm to 8:30pm . This is also a Tele-learning session, so no matter where you are in Northwestern Ontario or Thunder Bay , all you have to do is call Maria at 807-625-0328, toll free at 1-800-584-0252 if you are in the region, or by e mail at mariat@paro.ca.  She will provide the simple instructions and numbers you will need to participate.

On January 10th, join us at the Sioux Hudson Employment Office from 12 noon until 2pm .

These sessions are for women who are in business, thinking about starting a business or going through a transition whether personally or through a career change or search. They are also NO CHARGE, thanks to our Funders.

2006 in Review

During our trips east and west throughout 2006, women asked for some specific training and information, and we have been happy to have provided Experts to fulfill their needs. Some of the topics we held workshops on and did one- on- one counseling were:

·          Marketing

·          Bookkeeping Essentials for Small to Medium Business Owners

·          An Overview of PARO’s Services, training and training referrals

·          Resources for Women…some in crisis, some needing social supports and some needing
professional and business related referrals and information.

These sessions have, and will continue to provide a forum for valuable networking opportunities. PARO is in the process now of partnering with various organizations and groups like Business Women’s Networks in various communities in Northwestern Ontario, to provide or enhance more networking opportunities. If you know of any contacts, please contact us at info@paro.ca.

PARO CHAMPIONS

Be one of our Champions! Tell women you know who are in business, or thinking about it, about PARO and our workshops, and encourage them come out and hear what PARO can do for them!

A FOLLOW UP TO THE MARKETING SESSIONS HELD IN DECEMBER

We had an excellent response from women who participated in our telemarketing sessions last month, and wanted to pass along more information on the subject. http://www.cobsc.org/nwe as they expand this month and next on this important factor for your business success.

Look at us NOW in 2007. We look forward to meeting you!

Until next week,

The Business Accelerator

Principle #6 - DON'T WASTE TIME ON THE WRONG PEOPLE

Successful people take chances with new people.  They're risk takers, they invest in things that are unproven, hoping for a return. They look for the upside, and that often means, when dealing with people, taking a chance with someone untried or untested.
If you want a pretty good indicator of how people are going to behave in personal and business situations, find out how they've behaved before. History matters. A lot.  If you want to get a picture of how they're going to treat you, see how they've treated the people who came before you.  You have to spend time.  You learn about them.  You learn about their families.  If possible, meet their friends, attend events with them.  And at the end of the day, it's your gut.
.
"We can't be victims.  We do have control.  That means we have to make choices about how we spend our time and whom we spend time with."
-MARTY EVANS

PARO’s advanced Business Accelerator program provides a flexibility of workshops, mentoring, business counseling, web and tele-classes to women who are already established in their businesses but want to ‘grow a little or shift a lot’.  This program builds knowledge, skills, capacity, confidence and resilience as a business owner, and each participant’s program is specially tailored to suit their needs.  Contact accelerator@paro.ca to find out how the program can benefit your business.

PARO's Accelerator project has been supported with a grant from the Canadian Women's Foundation Economic Development Collaborative Fund, a partnership of the Canadian Women's Foundation, CIBC, The George Cedric Metcalf Charitable Foundation, The Ontario Trillium Foundation and an Anonymous donor.

January 20 – April 15, 2007

The Thunder Bay Historical Museum is pleased to present a special exhibition and public event organized and co-curated in conjunction with the Heavy Metal Artist Collective, from January 20 – April 15, 2007.   “HEAVY METAL: The Welding of Art and History” is a unique installation and collaboration between the Museum’s Curator, Dr. Tory Tronrud, and the members of HMAC, an artists collective comprised of local & international artists who work to advance the cause of contemporary art.

The opening public reception, with all artists present, will take place during a gala vernissage, ‘LEATHER AND LACE”, a Black Tie affair, on Saturday January 20, at 8 p.m. with live music being provided by the local Heavy Metal band, Toxic Neighbour. This event and accompanying exhibition promises to be both an eye and ear opening combination of local historical objects let out of the vaults for a blind date with today’s contemporary artworks, as well as a dramatic and entertaining evening of performance and music. The message is a simple one: history is not only alive, but it also secretly contains the future. These futuristic artists will be unifying all the dimensions within which our shared history can be considered, appreciated and extended. In addition to their welding, this is also the wedding of art and history.

Heavy Metal Artist Collective member, Patte Foreman-Doherty will be the curatorial liaison on behalf of the collective, working with the museum’s Director, Exhibition Designer and staff to facilitate this revolutionary glimpse into the hidden vaults of our local history and its diverse artifacts. Many of the artists, who comprise a versatile range of mediums of expressions, will be designing and creating unique objects specifically for this groundbreaking cultural event. This exciting display will be a compelling “conversation” between today’s cutting edge contemporary artists & designers, and the museums own treasury of important but perhaps under-utilized permanent collection. Museum Curator Tronrud will be selecting a wide range of important objects reflecting local history, and will work with the HMAC team to develop an enlivening evening of unsuspected encounters between the past, present and future, as well as an ongoing exhibition for the pleasure of museum visitors in general.
