We consider ourselves very fortunate and very uplifted from our last trip on our Westerly Loop and thought this would be a good opportunity to profile organizations and upcoming events in that region. It was a pleasure to present our workshop “Building Your Roadmap, Getting From Where you are to Where you Want to Be” to the Kenora Business Women’s Network and we wish to thank Carmella Laffin and Elysia Demsey from the Northwest Business Centre and LOWBIC for partnering with us on this. Go to http://www.nwbiz.ca/nwbc/http://www.kenora.ca/portal/business/lowbic/aboutlowbic/aboutlowbic.aspx?id=1152
or more information on these organizations. There is also an upcoming Job Fair in Kenora in April. Find out how you can participate in the fair, or register for a free “booth camp” session to plan your booth at  www.jobfairkenora.com.

Next week, we will be in the Schreiber/Terrace Bay area and in Geraldton:

This month, PARO is proud to partner with Thunder Bay Ventures to bring you “Networking with Flare, Hawaiian Style” on Wednesday, February 28th, 5 – 7 PM at the Northwestern Ontario Technology Centre, 1294 Balmoral Street .  Join your colleagues and meet new people as Thunder Bay City Councilor, and PARO member, Rebecca Johnson, presents the do’s and don’ts for networking.  See you there, and remember to bring a friend!

PARO Leads & Links events offer networking and learning opportunities, as well as great advertising opportunities for your business with display booths available at each event.  Contact Deborah Poole-Hoffmann at graphx@tbaytel.net to find out more about how you can promote and showcase your business, product, or service at PARO Leads & Links.

Circles

Just another reminder that the “New Beginnings Circle ” in Nipigon is holding a Networking Dinner on February 22nd at the Nipigon Café. For more information call Pat in Nipigon at 807-887-0035.  This networking event is open to all women in the region so if you are in Red Rock, Dorion, Pays Plat or any remote area or small community around Nipigon, the women would love to see you there and bring a friend! PARO will provide information on how to form a Peer Lending Circle   and help anyone who would like to start the process.  As well, if time allows,  we will touch on “Building your Roadmap, Getting from Where you are to Where you Want to be”.  It is an informative, simple, self-assessment guide to help you along life’s path and set goals.

Top Ten Characteristics of Successful Women Business Owners

Women are transforming the face of business and society, moving into leadership roles as business owners and in corporations. What are the characteristics that set successful women business leaders apart? Research and experience suggest that these top ten characteristics are key for women business leaders to maximize success the 21st century.

1. DEFINE SUCCESS IN YOUR OWN TERMS
It is so easy to let others -- usually very well intentioned friends, family, mentors and business associates -- define your goals. Take control of your destiny by deciding how you define success.

2. BE VALUES-BASED
The most successful women know what their values are, and in everything they do, their behavior is consistent with these values.

3. ACKNOWLEDGE AND OWN YOUR POWER
Acknowledge what is unique about you ? whether it is your leadership style, your way of making decisions, or your ability to take control of your own destiny. Leverage your power to foster change and success in all areas.

4. TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS... AND BELIEVE IN YOURSELF
Simply put: If it feels right, it usually is right!

5. RECOGNIZE YOUR STRENGTHS
Identify your strengths and those responsibilities you enjoy. Build your business utilizing those strengths. You can always hire someone to do what you hate to do or don't do well .

6. NURTURE YOUR MIDAS TOUCH
Profitability and wealth creation are integral to business growth. For most leaders, financial success is a tangible reward for all that they put into their businesses and professional lives. Earn it and enjoy it.

7. YOUR TIME AND ENERGY ARE VALUABLE RESOURCES
Your time and energy are resources to you, your business, your family and your friends. You are as scarce and valuable as any other resources in the business, and in your personal life, you are irreplaceable. Learn to set priorities to determine what and how much you will do, saying"yes"at the right times -- and saying "no"at the right times, too.

8. INVEST IN YOUR PERSONAL SELF
Invest both time and money in your health and well-being ... a regular massage, manicure, exercise or meditation, for example. Equally important is investing in your intellectual and spiritual well-being through reading, seminars, and professional and personal retreats.

9. BUILD SUPPORT NETWORKS
Build multiple support networks. Some should be for business counsel and contacts, including those that will help you measure your progress toward your goals. Other networks can help you manage your personal and family responsibilities and provide emotional support to enable you to balance your life in good and bad times.

10. ALWAYS LEAVE TIME FOR SERENDIPITY
Don't pack your schedule so full there isn't time for doing those spontaneous and serendipitous things that bring delight and joy into our lives.

Connecting You to a Fit & Healthy Lifestyle

Ahhhhh….Good Morning!

Do you stretch like a kitten when you wake in the morning? Are you kind to your body and let it wake up gradually, stretching and moving your feet, your legs, your hips, your arms your back, your neck or do you jar it into movement and expect it to respond immediately. When you get up from your desk; during those first few steps do feel like and sound like my diesel car when it’s -30?  Groan, sputter, chug, chug, chug!!!

Many people will get in their strength training and cardio exercise and then eliminate their stretching routine!! It is the old “no time”, “things to do” or “places to go”.

Being flexible is what you want for your muscles; it helps prevent injuries – because it works your muscles through the full range of motion that you’ll go through during exercise and everyday activities. Besides you feel better and you won’t feel as stiff as those frozen tires!!!

Try to add at least 5 minutes of stretching a day – 5 minutes!!!! Come on – you have 5!

If you think you’re fairly flexible and can put it on the back burner; try this lower back flexibility test:

Sit on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you and slightly spread apart. Put your right hand on top of your left and line up your fingertips; lean forward and reach for your feet.

If you are a women under 45 – you should be able to reach 2 to 4 inches past your feet – if you are over 45 you should be able to reach your soles.

Men under 45 should be able to reach the soles of their feet and men over 45 should come to within 3 to 4 inches of their soles.

Make it a groan, sputter, chug free week! S t r e t c h……. you’ll feel so much better when you get up and get going!!
