The Business Accelerator

Top 7 Ways To Give Higher Perceived Levels of Service Without Higher Cost

By Christopher M. Knight
  1. Remember that value perceived, is value achieved. Whether it's real value in your eyes, is irrelevant.

  2. Many times its the items of value, such as employees who care about the customer, that do not cost more, that are valued over lower priced competing products or services, which are similar.

  3. Your secret is in the DETAILS. SMALL things mean everything to many clients. Did you say thank you? Did you smile? Were you on time?

  4. When setting your prices, make sure you can deliver MORE than the customer expects for the value you are charging, so that you always appear to be giving them more than they pay for.

  5. SPEED achieved, can be value perceived.

  6. FOLLOW UP, is the lowest cost way to slam dunk higher perceived value.

  7. Do free seminars for your clients, that educate them on how to get more out of your product or service. Give free demo's.

PARO’s advanced Business Accelerator program provides a flexibility of workshops, mentoring, business counseling, web and tele-classes to women who are already established in their businesses but want to ‘grow a little or shift a lot’.  This program builds knowledge, skills, capacity, confidence and resilience as a business owner, and each participant’s program is specially tailored to suit their needs.  Contact accelerator@paro.ca to find out how the program can benefit your business.

PARO's Accelerator project has been supported with a grant from the Canadian Women's Foundation Economic Development Collaborative Fund, a partnership of the Canadian Women's Foundation, CIBC, The George Cedric Metcalf Charitable Foundation, The Ontario Trillium Foundation and an Anonymous donor.

PARO Success Story

PARO Member Blog

Daina's LiveStrong

I read a headline that stayed with me today as I thought about my upcoming week.  It said” Change more than your job, change your life”.  It was an ad for Vancouver 2010’s Olympics job recruitment site on workopolis.com.  Wouldn’t that be an amazing thing to work at the next Olympics?  I think it would be quite an experience.    This week, I was very much re-energized by my visit with Suzanne and Anke from PARO.  It was great to meet with like-minded women.  They gave me some much needed direction.  I am glad to say that I took their advice and it’s exciting to know that there are so many things that we can do with our lives, yet it’s up to us to find our passion (the hard part). Don’t get me wrong, I love my job with the Canadian Cancer Society and enjoy my work immensely, I just hope that there is a full time job ahead for me somewhere down the road. If not, who knows, Olympics 2010?

I am going to make this short this week since I am just recovering from tonsil surgery/wisdom teeth surgery.  People say I’m brave but I thought I was being practical by having both procedures done at the same time.  Good thing, since after that I probably wouldn’t have the courage to do it again.  My sister came down from St. Catherine’s to help us during my surgery stay since my mother has recently lost some vision and isn’t able to do all the things she used to.  (more on that later).  Life has been stressful lately with the news on her vision and she is having a hard time accepting it and is angry. My role from daughter has changed to caregiver which has been difficult although I know many women have become caregivers and can relate to my experience.  I am reading a good book right now called “I am My Mother’s Daughter:  Making Peace with Mom Before It’s too Late” by Iris Krasnow.

I visited my dad on Easter Sunday and had a good cry while I arranged his flowers on his grave.  My dad was wise and I could hear him say “Daina, you gotta get tough”.  Tough I have never been, but life is certainly helping me generate more of a thicker skin. Anyway, I have raised a wopping $40 towards the Challenge that I will participate in Austin in October.  I would like to attend the big fundraising dinner but I need to raise $5000.  Think I can do it?????   LIVESTRONG!

Connecting You to a Fit & Healthy Lifestyle

It’s Easter Tuesday and there are “No more bunnies, no more treats, no more candies on my heeps!!” Enough said!!

How would you like to “light” up your life? Was it still dark when you awoke this morning? How did you brighten it up so you could see? You turned on a switch, the energy flowed and your world lit up!

If you hadn’t flipped that switch you would have stumbled around in the dark until the sun came up. What if it was blocked today? What if it was a cloudy, grey, stormy day and it was dark and gloomy! Instead of flipping a switch and getting done what you need to do today, would you have bumbled around your house, whining and complaining because the stupid sun didn’t come out today? Of course not!

If you have spent any time with me, you know that “there are no excuses; only solutions” on our path to living a fit and healthy lifestyle! Part of the solution, is to “flip on” your internal switch. When an obstacle pops into your path today; be it someone’s left over chocolate they have brought into work to get rid of or someone or something needs you and your workout falls off the radar; flip your thinking. Don’t blame someone or something else for your decision making!

Excuses keep you in the dark! They block your vision, they hold you back or make you stand still, you bump into them, they make you fall, and they do not provide the energy to light your path to your goal!

Solutions are like “flipping the switch”. You feel energized because you have found a solution to one of life’s little barriers. You turned on the energy to light up your day, to stay on the right path, to let you move forward toward your fit and healthy goal!

Make it an excellent day! Flip your switch, light up your world, then get up and get going!!

The Lakehead University Menopause Research Group is currently conducting a study looking at how the emotional and physical symptoms women experienced during menopause may affect attitudes toward the menopausal transition.  This study is being run by Suzanne Stone (Master's Candidate in Clinical Psychology) and is being supervised by Dr. Dwight Mazmanian (Associate Professor of Psychology).

We are currently looking for volunteers who have already been through the menopausal transition (i.e., not having a menstrual period for AT LEAST 12 months).  This study should take between 15 and 40 minutes.  Anyone who has been through the menopausal transition is welcome to participate.

In order to participate, please email menopause@lakeheadu.ca or call (807) 343 8943.  If you leave your full mailing address we will send you a package of questionnaires and a postage paid envelope to return the package.  If you wish, we can email you a PDF version of the questionnaire that you can save to your computer, print off, and mail back to Lakehead University.  If a mailing address is provided, we will reimburse you for postage.

There is also an online version of the questionnaire at http://flash.lakeheadu.ca/~dmazmani/menopause/index.html .  You can fill this version online and submit it via the internet  if you prefer.

Thank you for your interest in this research.
