 Fueling Connections

Networking on the Move!

PARO on Wheels’ first Tele-Learning session took place this week, in partnership with Superior North Community Futures Development Corporation in Terrace Bay .  We had a total of 12 participants with women on the phone and in the offices of Superior North CFDC.  What a great opportunity for participants to come together to learn and seek input on various subjects about being in business, getting into business, and to “meet” new people.  Our thanks to all who participated and you can be sure that this was the first of many Tele-Learning sessions.

Networking and Peer Circles

PARO’s goal is to grow the number of women's networking groups in the region through technology and through meeting with you. Peer Circles are a great way for women in business or thinking of getting into business, to create networking opportunities and have access to small business loans, in stages from $1000 to $5000. During the next few weeks we will be working with groups in the Sioux Lookout area on Peer Circle development.

PARO Centre for Women’s Enterprise has over 30 Peer Circles throughout Northwestern Ontario , and we would be happy to help you start one. One of our representatives can meet with your group of 4-7 women on one of our scheduled trips, link you up with a “sister circle” or communicate by phone and e-mail to walk you through the easy templates we make available to help you start your circle. Such groups offer women networking opportunities, mentoring and skill-building opportunities as we learn from one another or invite a speaker to enlighten us.

All Regions are Welcome to Participate

Whether you live in a small Northern Community, Reserve or “in between” populated areas, PARO doesn’t believe in distance being a barrier with our Northern Opportunities for Women Program, so we will find a way to “connect” women to resources and to each other.

We spread our wings and visited Wawa this week as well.  What a great place with all those geese!  We also had the opportunity to meet with Michipicoten First Nation about becoming active with their women entrepreneurs in the near future. So, as you can see, we are actively seeking all types of connections, and would welcome your request for a visit to your community.

Visit Wawa on Line

We invite you to visit our partner’s home sweet home through their website http://www.edcwawa.ca and see for yourself what a fabulous community it really is.

Upcoming in the Region…

Look for PARO on Wheels in Dryden and Kenora in December!!  PARO on Wheels will be holding workshops and tele-learning sessions in partnership with Job Connect in Dryden on December 5th, and on December 6th in Kenora, in partnership with The Northwest Business Centre.

Until next week….

The Accelerator

Let’s take a moment to consider a great way to accelerate your business that is sometimes overlooked - concentrating on relationships.  Women tend have a natural inclination towards nurturing relationships, but sometimes forget to also apply this skill to business acquaintances.  Ronna Lichtenberg, drawing from hundreds of interviews with successful business people, has provided a set of 9 relationship principles that can assist in advancing your career/business.

Principle #1: ALWAYS REMEMBER IT PAYS TO BE PERSONAL[1].

The incorporation of both the head and the heart into business dealings is essential.  Building positive relationships will also build a positive culture within and around your business-attracting existing customers and new potential customers.

“There are very few people who can get through life based on their brilliance and their top performance that can ignore relationships.  And if they do, you don’t wanna know ‘em anyway.”

                                                                        – Jeff Maurer

Keep an eye out for the remaining 8 principles on the PARO Link!

PARO’s advanced Business Accelerator program provides a flexibility of workshops, mentoring, business counseling, web and tele-classes to women who are already established in their businesses but want to ‘grow a little or shift a lot’.  This program builds knowledge, skills, capacity, confidence and resilience as a business owner, and each participant’s program is specially tailored to suit their needs.  Contact accelerator@paro.ca to find out how the program can benefit your business.

Connecting You To A Fit And Healthy Lifestyle

I was on a long weekend to see my Dad who has become a “snowbird” before my eyes and is “flocking” off to Texas for the winter!! Isn’t that wonderful – he is a young 70, fairly healthy, active and able to travel to spend his winter doing what he “wants”: traveling, golfing, walking, sightseeing etc.

Ever heard the saying “I would if I could, but I can’t so I shan’t”??

What if you keep putting off your workouts and continue to make poor nutritional choices because you are just too busy right now! You have full intentions of making them a part of your lifestyle – next week; because this week is just crazy!! No time to get to the gym or out for a walk or go pick up the fresh fruit and veggies you need. “I would if I could, but I can’t so I shan’t”.

What if you continue to put those choices off? Week after week, year after year - you still have good intentions – you are going to get to it; soon.

What if you have the time and opportunity to travel for the winter!! Making unhealthy choices consistently over time may result in health so poor that “You would if you could, but you can’t so you shan’t”!!

Don’t be that Girl or Guy!!! Consistently make healthy choices; make the time to be active! “Plan so you can, be fit don’t sit!!”

Make it an excellent week! Get up and get going!!  “Don’t wait – it’s never too late!!
