Northern Opportunities for Women: "NOW" A Regional Outreach and Awareness Development Initiative

PARO is Reaching Out into Northern Communities with our

PARO on Wheels Van and our Business Experts Helping Make Your

Business Dreams a Reality!

It’s the” Entrepreneurial Element” nipping at your heels! Plan to attend our FREE workshops as we continue to bring you our “Business Works!” series in your communities.

Get ready for some expert advice and information from our PARO Business Coaches on “Exploring your Entrepreneurial Potential”.

We will be holding workshops on Tuesday, July 4th in Kenora at the Northwest Business Centre Office, 227 ½   Second Street South from 2PM until 3:30 PM .  and in Atikokan Wednesday, July 5th at the Atikokan Economic Development Office, 105 Main Street from 6:30PM until 8PM .  These workshops are held in partnership with the organizations mentioned and we are grateful for their support. Mark these dates and times on your calendar because they are following the long weekend, and we all know what it is like trying to get things back on schedule after a much needed break!

Remember, these workshops are FREE and we encourage you to bring a friend. You are invited, whether you have thought about starting your own business, are already in business or curious about how all women can benefit from the many services we offer at PARO. Some of the other areas we can help women in are: training, upgrading the skills you have already, resume and interview preparation and writing, and resources to help you in your personal life, including some challenging situations you may be facing.

The “Business Works” workshops we have held to date have been very successful. These are the first on our Western Route and we look forward to seeing you there. Please pass the word along to all you know, so they too can take advantage of what PARO has to offer. Our team includes: Laura Diamond ldiamond@paro.ca, specializing in guiding you through the many services and resources PARO and our partners have; Lisa Thomson lthomson@paro.ca, specializing in Human Resources, Business Operations and all facets of Business Planning, Bobby Jo Chenier bobbyjo@paro.ca, specializing in Business Development from the idea stage, business plans, and financing, Debbie Squier-Bernst debbiesb@paro.ca, specializing in credit and debt counseling and other money management issues, and Deborah Poole-Hofmann specializing in marketing, who can be contacted at the PARO office.

Peer Lending Circles are also an important aspect of PARO. It’s a unique way for women to attain small business loans, in stages, to help get them started. For more information on the upcoming workshops or if you have input to help us meet your needs, please contact Sandra Wiggins, Northern Opportunities for Women Project Coordinator at sandraw@paro.ca.

Connecting You to a Fit and healthy Lifestyle...

Good First Monday of Summer Morning!

Physical activity and active living should become part of the fabric of your life, as natural a part of your day as your morning shower. And making it a habit is much easier if you aim for frequency, not duration. Try to incorporate simple, small bouts of activity into your everyday life.

Looking for opportunities to be on your feet and moving is one of the best fitness strategies going. Not only does it improve your overall health, but you burn more energy than the sedentary folks! Refuse to take the elevator – use the stairs; walk into Tim’s for your coffee – don’t sit it a line-up a block long; walk into the bank to use the debit machine – don’t drive up to the window, DO NOT PARK next to the door at the Fitness Centre (or anywhere else) – park far away and walk (fast).

If you want active living to become routine, find ways to do it in short bursts – cause it sure beats bursting your shorts!!!

Make it an excellent week! Get up and get going! Move it, move it, move it!!

Health Minute

The Good Egg...

Here's some welcome news for breakfast lovers: Eggs may help reduce your weight.

Eggs already have been reinstated as a health food (the major Nurses' Health Study cleared eggs of upping heart attack and stroke risk). Now there's evidence that people who scramble, boil, or poach one for breakfast -- versus eating a bagel with the same number of calories -- bypass junk-food cravings and eat fewer calories for at least 24 hours, without even trying.

RealAge Benefit: Maintaining your weight and body mass index at a desirable level can make your RealAge as much as 6 years younger.

Weekly Inspiration

When I'm in Canada, I feel this is what the world should be like.

POSITIVE QUOTE : "A wise person sets requirements only for self; an unwise person makes requirements for others."

                                Chinese Wisdom

DAILY MOTIVATION :  Right now

Stop for a moment and calm your thoughts
Let go of your anxieties and look around you.
What do you see?
You see a world filled with beauty.
You see a life filled with possibilities.
You see dreams being born, being nurtured and being fulfilled.
Yes, there  are challenges.

Yes, there is sorrow.
Yes, there is violence and hatred.
But more than these there is love, there is goodness, there is joy.
The future is uncertain.
And that means there is no limit as to how beautiful and
joyful you can make it. .
Yet what you have is right now.

And right now is completely as it should be.

It is your time to live.

Think of what a precious thing your life is and how truly blessed you are to be experiencing it.
Right now.
Right now, any anxiety you may have about the future is
only an illusion.

Let it go.
Let it fade away, as the beauty and perfection of right now,
wash over you.

The best thing you can do for the future is to live with everything you have in the present.
Right now, you are in a position to create real, lasting positive value for the world in which you live.
How do you do that?
By following your heart.
By being the you that is really you.
You may have wandered a way from yourself
Now is the time to come home.
You know in your heart that you are here for a reason.
The pain you feel is that purpose,
that reason for living, as it constantly aches to break free.
When it does, you will be more alive than you could ever have imagined.
Breathe in the beauty around you, the beauty and richness of being alive.
It is your gift.
It is your fortune.

It is your blessing.

And it is yours, to live, to experience, to fulfill.

Right now
