Faces of Fast Forward

“We are encouraged and thankful for the support of the local community”

When “big box” retailers move into a community it is often at the expense of smaller, locally-owned shops in the traditional shopping districts. Those that do survive tend to share two common characteristics:  a strong focus on customer service and a unique product offering.  This is certainly the case with a local artisan boutique in the South Core called PARO Presents.

Much more than just a store, PARO Presents is a social purpose project of PARO Center for Women’s Enterprise , featuring handmade goods by more than 70 Thunder Bay and Northern women on sale to the general public.  Committed to its community and to women of the North, PARO Presents offers workshops, training programs and open houses and participates in downtown events to help strengthen the South Core area.

PARO’s success has been a team effort, says Rosalind Lockyer, Executive Director of the PARO Centre for Women’s Enterprise :

“We are encouraged and thankful for the support of the local community, visitors and dedication of the team leader and the program participants. Sales in January and February are more than double than for last year.  With participation from entrepreneurs and artisans from across the North, we have product from as far away as Jellico in the east and Dryden in the west.  Soon to be celebrating our 4th anniversary for PARO Presents, this is a cause for celebration!!!”

“The most important feature length movie documentaries in years….”

 The End of Suburbia

Oil Depletion and the Collapse of the American Dream

  7-9:30PM Thursday April 20th

Waverley Library Auditorium

Everyone is Welcome!  Movie to be followed by community discussion

The phrase “peak oil” is used in reference to our dependence on dwindling energy supplies, primarily oil and natural gas. It has been predicted that we may soon be facing a very critical era where global demand for fossil fuels will outstrip supply.

What does this mean for the City of Thunder Bay ? How can we prepare for the challenges of an energy constrained world?  Are there individual and collective opportunities to drastically lower our consumption, build greater local self-reliance, and move towards a more cooperative and inclusive community? What are some of the challenges and opportunities for community based land-use planning?

Join us for an issues and answers discussion with our special guest panelists: Jane Oldale, Superior Renewable Energy Co-op; Dr. Tom Puk, Department of Lifelong Learning, Lakehead University ; Katherine Dugmore, Manager of Planning, City of Thunder Bay .

presented by:  EarthWise Thunder Bay         …building a community vision for sustainable living.

POSITIVE QUOTE :  "You will find that people unwilling to work will either take advantage of others or be humiliated by them."

DAILY MOTIVATION :  THE POSITIVE SIDE OF LIFE:

Living on Earth is expensive, but it does include a free trip around the sun every year.

How long a minute is depends on what side of the bathroom door you are on.

Birthdays are good for you; the more you have, the longer you live.

Happiness comes through doors you did  not even know you left open.

Ever notice that the people who are late are often much jollier than the people who have to wait for them?

Most of us go to our grave with our music still inside of us.

You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person.

Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

Do not cry because it is over; smile because it happened.

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all exist very nicely in the same box.

A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

Have an awesome day, and know that someone who thinks you are great has thought about you today!..

"And that person was me.".....
