The Accelerator

QUALITY!  What's Your Standard?

When a business needs to grow, one of the first questions the owner should ask is, "How do I maintain the highest quality (of products, services, etc.) while I'm going through the transition of growth phase?".   What's the potential of "messing up" with some of my customers while my business is switching gears?  What are my minimum standards, and how do I measure quality?

1.  Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren't used to an environment where excellence is expected.
- Steve Jobs
Q.  How do you describe your quality yardstick?

Be willing to make decisions. That's the most important quality in a good leader. Don't fall victim to what I call the ready-aim-aim-aim-aim syndrome. You must be willing to fire.
- T. Boone Pickens
Q.  Do you know how you make decisions?  Tough decisions?  Has your decision making style grown with you?

Almost all quality improvement comes via simplification of design, manufacturing... layout, processes, and procedures.
- Tom Peters
Q.  How can you make things simpler?  How can you simplify so that your quality increases?

Keep your thinking right.  And your business will be right.
- Zig Ziglar
Q.  Am I consistent in my thinking?  Could I be more innovative?  What kind of thinking would improve quality?

The Accelerator helps women in business to increase their thinking power, and gear up their businesses!  This week is "vacation time", yet you can call for an application form or request an appointment to discuss your participation!  The phone number is 807 625 0328.  Ask for Joni!

Spring, Spirituality and Self

This week is the cushion between the first day of Spring and the Easter Weekend.  It's a time of renewal  after a long, cold and snowy winter filled with work and activities to keep our minds off the weather.  It's also a time to refill our spirit, praise and possibly, worship.

Recently I found a website which links the story of women's inner development in their own words, and the social, emotional and professional fulfillment that spiritual commitment provides.  When you enter findthedivine.com, you will discover information from the religious divine to divine ideas to share with your family this weekend. “Even Christ took time to go off and reflect on his life,” points out Gail Battista, executive director of Dominican Retreat, a Catholic ministry of the Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine de’ Ricci in McLean, Va., which offers individual or conference-style getaways. “A retreat removes you from the demands of your day-to-day routine and gives you a chance to gain perspective,” she adds. “It’s almost impossible to reflect on the meaning of your life when you’re caught up in activity.”

You don't need to sign up for a formal retreat.  But what is important, is taking time out to rejuvenate your soul.

For example:  GAZE AT THE NIGHT SKY. You can create an unforgettable evening for your family simply by taking an old quilt to a dark hill on a clear night and looking up. "God is in his heaven. All's right with the world," said Anne (quoting Robert Browning) at the end of "Anne of Green Gables," and you will feel this way too. There it is in all its glory, the sky that unites you to the most ancient of peoples in faraway times.

Wishing you a spirit-filled Easter,

Roz

Health Minute

Cupful of Catechins

A mild boost to your weight loss efforts may be brewing in your teapot.

In a small study, Japanese researchers recently noted that adding catechin-rich green tea to the daily diet mildly boosted weight loss efforts in a group of men. Catechins -- a type of antioxidant -- also are purported to provide heart-health benefits. Other sources of catechins include grapes, wine, chocolate, berries, and apples.

RealAge Benefit: Getting the right amount of antioxidants through diet or supplements can make your RealAge 6 years younger

POSITIVE QUOTE :  "With each new day, I put away the past and discover the  new beginnings I have been given."

- Angela L. Wozniak

DAILY MOTIVATION:  A LITTLE BOY

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper.  His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.

Finally the day came when the boy did not lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said,

"You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one.  You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It will not matter how many times you say I am sorry, the wound is still there. " A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one.

Friends are very rare jewels, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us."

Irby F. Stewart
